Governance, Ethics & Verification

1. Governance & Oversight

The International Theological Accreditation Association (ITAA) operates under a governance structure that reflects our commitment to integrity, transparency, and biblical accountability.
As a faith-based accrediting body recognised by the Council for Education Quality & Accreditation (CEQA), we follow governance practices that align with CEQA’s private-sector oversight expectations while serving the unique needs of theological education.

Our governance includes:

  • Executive oversight and administrative review

  • External academic and theological advisors (consulted when needed)

  • Clear policies for ethical decision-making

  • Accountability structures to ensure impartial accreditation reviews

This framework allows ITAA to function with both global credibility and theological distinctiveness.

2. Ethical Commitments

ITAA is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in all accreditation activities.
We uphold the following principles:

  • Honesty & Transparency: All decisions and communication are conducted openly and truthfully.

  • Fairness: Every institution is evaluated consistently according to published standards.

  • Doctrinal Respect: ITAA does not enforce a specific denomination; we respect the diversity within orthodox Christian traditions.

  • Student Protection: Institutions must demonstrate ethical treatment of learners, academic integrity, and responsible stewardship.

  • Non-Commercial Integrity: Accreditation cannot be bought or influenced by personal relationships or financial incentives.

These principles ensure that theological accreditation remains meaningful, trustworthy, and Christ-honoring.

3. Conflict of Interest

ITAA reviewers and staff must avoid any situation where impartiality may be compromised.

No reviewer may participate in evaluating an institution if they:

  • Are employed by the institution

  • Have a financial interest in the institution

  • Serve in leadership at the institution

  • Have family or personal relationships with its staff

  • Have a vested interest that could influence objectivity

If a conflict arises, a different reviewer is immediately assigned.

4. Verification of Accreditation

Anyone may verify the accreditation status of an institution accredited by ITAA.

To verify an institution:

Include:

  • Institution name

  • Country

We respond to verification requests within 2–5 business days.

A public directory of accredited institutions may also be made available on our website.

5. Complaints & Concerns

ITAA accepts formal complaints only on issues related to:

  • Misuse of accreditation status

  • Ethical misconduct

  • False claims of theological or academic credibility

  • Non-compliance with ITAA standards

Submit complaints to:

admin@i-t-a-a.com

Complaints are reviewed confidentially and impartially in accordance with CEQA-aligned quality assurance policies.

6. Commitment to Continuous Improvement

As a CEQA-recognised accrediting body, ITAA routinely reviews its evaluation processes, governance practices, and standards to ensure:

  • Ongoing alignment with international private-sector quality assurance frameworks

  • Faithful representation of theological education best practices

  • Enhancement of student and institutional outcomes

This ensures that ITAA remains a trusted authority in theological accreditation worldwide.
